Planning our Wedding

I have to say that planning our wedding was one of the best things that I have ever done, and I would do it again. Yes I said that I would do it again. We had a little over 2 years to get everything in order and it was perfect. I couldn't have asked for a more special  wedding day.

Austin and I had long decided that we were going to do everything against the norm as far  as wedding traditions were concerned. None of the dances, well except daddy daughter and our first dance. I also decided that I didn't want anything white near our wedding, ie my dress. lol

It was beautiful, simple,  elegant and for the most part stress free. I encountered stress when ever I had to go over the details with Austin since the vision that I had for our wedding was totally different than his, but in the end we were able to compromise. I think Austin was annoyed at all my wedding talk. When I stop talking to him about wedding talk he got annoyed because all I could talk about was the knot and the girls on the knot. He just didn't understand. I needed to talk to someone and if he wasn't going to listen who else but a bunch of fellow brides.

We saved a lot a bit of money by doing our own flowers. After getting several quotes for simple calla lilly arrangements I decided that there must be a way to do it myself. Thank god for COSCTO.  I ordered the flowers from Costco and and made all the bouts, centerpieces, etc the night before the wedding.  Carrie and I were up working on flowers until 3 am the Sat of wedding  and it was well worth it. It was a small pain in the butt, but it was well worth it.

Ladies doing your wedding flowers is not as difficult as you would think. There are a ton of library books that can help you in determining what blooms are right and how to go about having the best looking wedding DIY flowers yourself.
Another thing, shop around. Florist like say how expensive flowers are. ITS A LIE! lol  I wanted Calla Lilly for my arrangemnts. I was told how expensive they were and that they are difficult to get. NOT TRUE! Calla's are year round and one of the cheapest flowers to find. I should know. Costco is a great resourse for wedding flowers. Florist wants to rent their $5 dollar vases for $25. Buy your own. Its so easy to save on something like flowers which will be thrown away.

You can do it!

We were able to save on decorations because we found a reception site that needed nothing. The chairs didn't need covers and I thought it was rediculous to pay for table cloths that no one really cared about.  I was amazed at how beautifully decorated the Ritz Carlton was. Any additional decoration would have been over doing it.

I actually learned a few things about myself during the wedding planning process. Stressing the small stuff was a waste of energy. Stressing about things that you had no control over was a waste of time.  I learned that with  the help of library books and a bit of patience you can pretty much do anything your little heart desires.  I discovered that I actually had a creative side and that when I put my mind to something that I can do anything. A few things that I figured out how to do  were,  making the girls pomanders, a bridal veil that I never used, a card box, making bouts, centerpieces and bouquets.

I also realised that it was just impossible to please everyone. I eventually got to the point where I was just tuning out people and their unsolicited advice. It was so much easier just doing what we wanted and if it didn't work then we would just start all over. I had a blast.

Our wedding day was fabulous. I wasn't nervous and it was very surreal even after we had said our vows. I just couldn't belive that it was here.

My MOH played a huge part in making our wedding day a success. She thought about things like breakfast for the girls when I totally forgot. She was on top of making me eat breakfast and lunch. If there was an award for Best MOH, Carrie would have won it.

I was happy and I was sad on our wedding day. My brother-inlaw who was looking forward to our wedding died suddenly on Thanksgiving Day weekend last year. We used to chat about the wedding and how he couldn't wait to come and dance to Jamaican music. We loved to dance. He had already chosen his Brooks Brothers suit that he wanted to wear. I miss him so much and wished he was there to celebrate with us. He talked to Austin on the tele but they never got a chance to meet.  I know that he was with us in spirit. He was all I could think about as my sister, his wife gave me away.

Mr Brodie I love you and wish you could have seen how beautiful everything turned out.

RIP

The world could have come to an end on September 19th and I would have still been smiling.
Dont stress the little stuff.
Enjoy every second of it.
Smile!!!!

Know that the day will go by in the blink of an eye.

All that planning for one day.

I loved it!!!
